PUT ON THE HELMET OF SALVATION WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD

Life is a battlefield, and we can only be sustained by God’s right hand. I’ve learned that it takes courage to get through life’s trials and tragedies. I’ve learned in the crucible of life’s exigencies that there is a direct correlation between faith and courage. As the old hymn says, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear.” John Brunner

If you are presently serving on the front lines in the military…

If you are a Gold Star mother with a son resting under a granite cross…

If you are a grandmother raising your grandchildren all on your own…

If you are a widower raising your daughters without their mother…

If you are a single mom holding two jobs to keep food on the table hoping to get an extension on the rent…

If you are a police officer who just wants to arrive home alive to see your family at the end of every shift…

If you are a factory-line mechanic who seldom has time at home, working overtime, anytime and every time, for your child’s college education…

If you are a farmer, and your crops have failed again and the foreclosure begins next week…

If your child received a scholarship to college, but was never able to attend, because of a life cut short by cancer…

If you lost your job at the convenience store because some thugs burned down the place…

If it has been ten (10) months since your spouse has been deployed into harm’s way, and the first time you will see him is next week, hard-wired to bedside machines at Walter Reed Military Hospital, or perhaps, Harry S Truman Memorial Hospital….

If you find yourself slugging it out, up against the wall, blinded by tears of sorrow and grief….

Then what pray tell, do you do? To Whom or where can your turn?

If you can feel a pulse, if you are still alive, a member of the still-breathing category of the human race; finding yourself in a foxhole, under attack, you, like me, need some battlefield verses that will give you the courage and strength to fight another day and overcome all that you are up against. In the darkest of nights, God’s encouraging words will be that sustaining guiding star, lighting your path until the darkness sounds retreat on the horizon of a new day.

All Battlefield Verses are inspired by God…so that every soldier of God may be thoroughly equipped for every combat mission.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 (modified)

 BATTLEFIELD VERSES

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor because of all the army that is with him; for the One with us is greater than the one with him. With him there is only an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. 2 Chronicles 32:7-8

“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. When you approach the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people, and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: you are advancing today to battle against your enemies. Do not lack courage. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble [in terror] before them, for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’ Deuteronomy 20:1-4

Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble in dread before them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”

Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all [the people of] Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you will go with this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance. It is the Lord who goes before you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”  Deuteronomy 31:6-8

27 Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind (soul) striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel. 28 And in no way be alarmed or intimidated [in anything] by your opponents, for such [constancy and fearlessness on your part] is a [clear] sign [a proof and a seal] for them of

[their impending]

destruction, but [a clear sign] for you of deliverance and salvation, and that too, from God.  Philippians 1:27-28

‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you;

In God have I put my trust and confident reliance; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?  Psalm 56:11

The God of Jacob is our stronghold [our refuge, our high tower].  Psalm 46:7

How blessed and graciously favored is he whose help is the God of Jacob (Israel),
Whose hope is in the Lord his God.  Psalm 146:5

With God we will do valiantly,
For it is He who will trample down our enemies.  Psalm 108:13

For I,’ declares the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire around her [protecting her from enemies], and I will be the glory in her midst.’  Zechariah 2:5

You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character],
Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].

Isaiah 26:3

so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom and rhetoric of men, but on the power of God.  1 Corinthians 2:5

But this I call to mind,
Therefore I have hope.
22 It is because of the Lord’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed,
Because His [tender] compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
Great and beyond measure is Your faithfulness.  Lamentations 3:21-23

I have been young and now I am old,
Yet I have not seen the righteous (those in right standing with God) abandoned
Or his descendants pleading for bread.  Psalm 37:25

Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].  Hebrews 4:16

[in Jesus the Son of God]

.  1 John 5:4

Be still before the Lord; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him;
Do not fret (whine, agonize) because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
Cease from anger and abandon wrath;
Do not fret; it leads only to evil.
For those who do evil will be cut off,
But those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land.
10 For yet a little while and the wicked one will be gone [forever];
Though you look carefully where he used to be, he will not be [found].
11 But the humble will [at last] inherit the land
And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity and peace.

12 The wicked plots against the righteous
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord laughs at him [the wicked one—the one who oppresses the righteous],
For He sees that his day [of defeat] is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow
To cast down the afflicted and the needy,
To slaughter those who are upright in conduct [those with personal integrity and godly character].
15 The sword [of the ungodly] will enter their own heart,
And their bow will be broken.

No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].  1 Corinthians 10:13

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.  Joshua 1:9

But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;

[rising toward the sun]

; They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired.  Isaiah 40:31

Jeremiah 29:11

51 Listen very carefully, I tell you a mystery [a secret truth decreed by God and previously hidden, but now revealed]; we will not all sleep [in death], but we will all be

[completely]

changed [wondrously transformed], 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at [the sound of] the last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [who believed in Christ] will be raised imperishable, and we will be [completely] changed

[wondrously transformed]

. Corinthians 5:51-52

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin [by which it brings death] is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory [as conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:55-57

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. 38 For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:37-39

10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might. 11 Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to

[successfully]

stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places13 Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious]. 14 So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), 15 and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. 16 Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.  Ephesians 6:10-17
